Hello, and welcome to Goat Thing of the Day, a weekly series that wheels, deals, and banana peels.
Today’s photo comes from local author, speaker and photographer Susan Maxwell Skinner. It’s a picture of Susan’s mother-in-law with a friend in 1919.
Clearly this goat cart photo in the early 1900s was a “thing” because not only has Susan seen another photo of another friend with the exact goat and cart in Lodi, CA, but a guy once mowed me down at a bar to give me a framed picture of his father with a goat in 1927.
Susan also sent me a nanny goat in panties!
Thank you, Susan!
Ooh I love old photos! I’m doing research for a history book I’m working on…if I come across any old goat photos I will send them your way. 😉
I’ve never seen a goat-pulled cart and didn’t realize it was such a common thing back then. Â That’s really a wonderful photo. Â I think it belongs in your calendar. Â Â
Very cool! Love the photo!

Such gorgeous horns on that goat! Pretty panties too 🙂
PLEASE! Do not give the male person ideas
Ha! No, no, you be sure and tell her that this is very Draconian and nobody does this kind of thing anymore. (They probably do, but don’t tell her that).
