Nanny Goats in Panties Rotating Header Image

At the Intersection of Homelessness and Vanity

So I’m at the hair salon, getting my hair all salonned, when a strange man appeared outside, repeatedly thrashing at his head.

“Oh, he comes here all the time,” said my hair salonner.

Turns out, this homeless guy is vain as all get out. He pretends the tree is a mirror and he primps and coifs and combs for long stretches of time.

I wonder how much he charges for a partial highlight. You would think the girls inside would feel threatened by the competition. Instead, they have nicknamed him Blanket Boy, although I’m not sure why.

Blanket Boy, Blanket Boy…. Is it some Michael Jackson reference? Maybe he sings while doing his hair.

Oh well, I guess I’ll figure it out eventually.

I would have laughing so hard that my haircut would have taken two hours – and I have no hair.

  2. LOL… he looks pretty happy doing his primping in front of the tree. Now if I could only be that happy with my own hairstyling efforts.

  3. Tranquility says:

Nice – a hair cut and a show!
    FUNNY!

  4. Pooba says:

Is that for real! I would have died laughing! Seriously, thats hilarious!

  5. Michele says:

At least he’s got a smile on his face. Gotta admire that!
    Happy Thanksgiving!

Homeless is a bad thing. You sitting in a window and NOT taking a photo would also be a bad thing. I saw where you got THIRTY-ONE comments and I thought: “I write my heart out and get NINE comments on a good day, and you’ve got THIRTY-ONE!!” Then I read some of the comments and got kinda happy with my nine. You go girl!!

  8. Sorry, don’t want to come off as a ‘troll’ (in a goat’s world) but I don’t see anything humourous about making fun of a mentally ill person, and posting pictures of him in a public place so others can do so too. If a non-mentally ill person did something ‘funny’ – say falling down in front of the salon, would you post their picture for laughs too? Probably not. Seems to me that homeless people, because of their status and their ‘wierdness’, aren’t subject to the same levels of compassion the rest of us are.
I have, otherwise, enjoyed your blog. This post just didn’t set well with me at all.

Thanks for coming by Margaret – my blog seems a little better today just for you having been there! Not to worry – Relax Max are still great friends – well, friends as much as anyone can with that guy. Not to worry, his bark is worth than his bite. I would send you over to his site if you’re not familiar with him, but you’re actually a better person for not knowing in this case. Love the site – I’ll be back. CHEERS!

    Holla!
I keep polishing the tree in front of my house but I still can’t quite make out my reflection. Dangit.
FYI, I just gave you a shout-out over at my “pad”…
    And Happy Thanksgiving, BTW…

Welcome to the world of men I meet through online dating. 🙂

  12. Nana says:

I dunno. I’m going out on a limb here, but I think he’s getting trunk on his own reflection. Or pretending he’s Frankie (or Annette) at Beach Blanket Bingo.

Maybe it’s a creative staged protest against the capitalist consumerism attributed to our obsession with primping and preening. Or maybe he’s just crazy…

  14. cassie says:

Hi! Thanks for coming by my blog again and reading about my day of dread! I think I would have rather been Blanket Boy today! I get to keep the chocolate, but I have to pick out the creepy canned strawberries that Mom made me stick in the middle of it! I like strawberries, but these things just look like dead blobs. Good luck tomorrow, remember during the holidays with family…prepare for worst, and hope for the best!

Lessee…I’m sitting here trying to work out why they call him blanket boy….My kingdom for a clue. But while I continue to ponder this great mystery, let me just say It’s a good thing he has chosen to salon by the salon rather than tan his nude self outside of a tanning salon. I’ve just given myself too much information. I’m going to lie down. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving, Nan!

  16. Leslie says:

I don’t believe you…you photo-shopped that picture! That’s just ridiculous, only you would have a homeless person at your salon as crazy as this one…

  17. I’m with mrmudpuppy — I think the guy was without poking fun at those within.

  18. eve says:

    Nanny..
Hahahah, M.J., cute. You know, my grandmother took to looking into a tree instead of a mirror. Each time I look into a mirror, I think that might not be such a silly idea.

I voted…and happily so..because you make me laugh everyday. And Blanket boy might want to hang out in front of a plastic surgeon for a few weeks…the hair is the least of his worries.

  20. Michelle says:

Thanks for stopping by my saucy blog. Have you picked up that Twilight book yet? I have seen the movie three times. It is awesome.

  21. mrsmouthy says:

I totally voted for you. But just to let you know, I would have voted for Blanket Man if he were in the running.

  22. Blond Duck says:

The first picture creeped me out…I’m surprised they haven’t run him off!

  23. MrMudPuppy says:

Based on the comments so far, it’s interesting what people are seeing in this post. I see a man who deliberately positions himself in front of a salon making fun of people spending $230 (including tip) to get their hair done.

  24. Chris Bowers says:

I think that’s my uncle Bobby.

  25. Tracy says:

Poor guy. He seems like a real character. I hope life starts looking up for him.

  26. Aoi says:

Ingenuity and individualism. Just what we need nowadays. And entertainment, almost enough to make me give up my habit of cutting my own hair.

  27. Bobbi says:

I like that even though he’s homeless he still takes pride in himself and how he looks.
Someone from the salon should nail a real mirror to the tree so he can really primp and preen!

  28. call me a wuss, but... says:

pix of a mentally ill person for laffs? surely there are worthier targets.

  29. MJ says:

We have a homeless guy that hangs outside my salon too. They call him Big Joe, because his name is Joe and he’s big…

  30. Heather says:

Was your hair in rollers or foil when you took these shots?

  31. Lizzie says:

That’s fantastic! I’d let him highlight my hair any day 🙂

  32. orion says:

    He’s goes to my stylist!!!!

  33. It just goes to show, just because you’re homeless that doesn’t mean you have to let yourself go.

  34. Di says:

Wonder where he bought his blanket? I like it!

  35. annette says:

Wow! Live entertainment while get your hair done!

  36. Yaya says:

    Hmmmm….a bit creepy….

  37. Braja says:

Takes all sorts, Panties (I just love having a blog where I can call the person Panties. I admit.)
