That’s right. Today is Free Ice Cream Day at your local participating Häagen-Dazs store. Woooooo hooo! Free ice cream! There’s nothing better than free ice cream, am I right?
Except that I hope you choke on it. Because we here in Sacramento cannot partake in this wholesome (and free!) American activity because even though we frequently roll well over 100 degrees in the summer time, and we very much like free stuff, we have no Häagen-Dazs store.
I will either be blaming the city council once again for banning its existence, or Baskin-Robbins for squeezing it out mafia-style because B-R knows good ice cream when it tastes it, and it fears “The Dazs.”
Or I could blame Häagen-Dazs for not giving our town a chance. That’s highly likely. And I would rant on and on about Häagen-Dazs and how much I hate them except I can buy it at the grocery store pretty much any time I want.
Plus, I saw this video today that made my day. According to them, we are losing honey bees by the buzzillion and they are running a public awareness campaign with this wonderfully juxtapositional honey bee rap video.
DJ Honey and the Bee-Boys get down!
The question is whether or not to seek therapy for this problem I now have of unrequited love. Perhaps I should drown my sorrows in a free ice-blended drink at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf because they are also giving away free drinks today.
Oh, wait…Sacramento doesn’t have those either.
(Apologies to those who read the previous version of this post where I mixed up Peet’s with Coffee Bean and thought for a minute that this town was going to get free iced blendeds today.)
Just a few days left to Vote for Nanny Goats in Panties!

You should move to NYC permanently(not just to BlogHer)… We’ve got plenty Haagen-Daz here…
Yummmmy!! Ice cream!! And Häagen-Dazs is my VERY favorite!
Along with no Twinkies, no Cookie Crisp cereal, no HoHos, no Ding Dongs and no cheese in a can, we also have no Hagen-Dazs store here in Even More Canada. Like you, I can buy Hagen-Dazs at other stores, but there is no Hagen-Dazs store. Maybe we should make Sacremento part of Canada?
As far as I know, the only Haagen-Dazs stores in San Antonio are at the mall and the Riverwalk, two places I generally avoid, much less on days with free ice cream. It would be a madhouse.
If it makes you feel any better, Starbucks is offering half-price Frappuccinos from 3-6 p.m. through May 15. Bet you’ve got a Starbucks somewhere close by!
I’d settle for even having either Haagen Daz or Baskin Robbins, never mind a freebie. I live in a craphole. I hate it here. I’m going to move. Just as soon as I can. Sure am. This is me planning my escape…
How dare you get my hopes up by saying there’s a Coffee Bean within 100 miles of Sacramento. Do you know I email them every 6 months or so to find out if they’ve considered a Sacramento store, and every 6 months, I am heartbroken all over again?
I’m awfully sorry about that. That musta been the wishful thinking talking.
No HD here either, darn! But we would be there if we had one!

I’m the kind of person who would inadvertently start a riot and/or say something when the wait was too long that would perfectly encapsulate why everyone else thinks Americans are so fat and/or entitled which would then wind up on YouTube and probably sink my chances at running for office one day. Like this: http://youtu.be/1eiG5FCYJ8k
And I would be in that same video WITH you because I’m certain that’s how I’m going down.
Yeah, you really should be in with me because I generally have between 2-4
snot-nosed, dirty t-shirt wearing children with me at all times which I
think really adds that extra bit of oomph to any sort of freebie day gone
wrong scene.
Free food days at places are insane. I’d rather pay for my ice cream and stand in a much shorter line on non-free days.
That…is an excellent point.
Please do share where the Sacramento Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is because:
a) CB&TL > Starbucks
b) I’ve never seen one in the Sacramento area, and
c) When I looked for the Sacramento location on the website nothing showed up.

Ack! Well now, this is embarrassing. I totally got confused between Peet’s and Coffee Bean. I now have to retract that. Thank you for pointing that out! Also? This totally does nothing but confirm my whole theme. Sheesh!
Darn, I was hoping there was a secret location that only the cool kids knew about. Oh well…it’s probably not worth the gas to drive to San Francisco just for a free drink, huh?
OK, so I just changed it and I would like to thank you again for helping me realize that I made an error. It was like having toilet paper stuck to my shoe and you’re the kind friend to tell me. I only regret that I may have misled you into thinking we actually had a CB&TL (because I agree with your “a” statement).
No problem! I’m also the kind of person that will tell you if you have something in your teeth. Because there aren’t enough people who will do that, at least in my experience. Which I totally don’t get because I would think most people would WANT to know if something is dangling in her teeth.
I live so far away from everything the only thing I get for free is bad weather.
But you live far away from everything on purpose. I live in a CITY. A capitol city, no less. We don’t have an excuse. That’s right, I think somebody should start a Haagen Dazs franchise, just so I can get a free scoop of ice cream one day a year.
