Goat Thing of the Day: Spotted Goat

Hello, and welcome to Goat Thing of the Day, a weekly series that surfs, turfs, and Smurfs.

I don’t spot goats that often, especially spotted goats, so when avid NGIP fan, Nellie, sent me a few goat pics, I had to share one of them with you guys.

Meanwhile, back in Alaska, in case you’ve been wondering what the mountain goats have been up to lately, look no further.

Goat Food

We here at Nanny Goats in Panties have seen the trend in goat milk, goat meat and goat cheese in more and more recipes and publish those recipes here in the NGIP recipe box. Now there is a book by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough (with photographs by Marcus Nilsson) to bring you a whole lotta recipes - woo hoo!

Behold Goat: Milk, Meat, Cheese

From the book’s description:

Goat is a no-holds-barred goatapedia, laugh-out-loud cooking class, cheesemaking workshop, and dairy-milking expedition all in one. With recipes such as Pan-Roasted Chops with Blackberries and Sage, Meatballs with Artichokes and Fennel, and Chocolate-Dipped Goat Cheese Balls, this book is sure to become the resource for this new frontier.

I haven’t had much opportunity to sample goat cuisine, though I’m sure I’d love it, but I am definitely a goat milk soap convert. I love it SO MUCH.

I feel like such a pioneer: back in the mid-seventies, one of my hang-outs was a mountain top home in Big Sur, Ca. The family raised goats, among other things….we enjoyed bbq goat and rabbit with some regularity. Delicious…but a little weird knowing who you were eating.

The publicist reviewed that cookbook on her blog. She even cooked ::shudder::goat for it.
I won’t tell you who it was.
