Goat Thing: Anonymous Mail and Curly the Nativity Goat

I have no story for the following three goat pictures, only that someone named Lori sent them in with no words about them (or her. or anything.), so here are some no-name no-place goats for you to enjoy!

These could be 2013 Calendar Contenders!

Goats in the News

This article, called to my attention by fellow humor blogger Shari of Dusty Earth Mother,  appeared just after Christmas in The Huffington Post entitled “Goat Flees Nativity Scene, Still on the Lam“. I know, it’s a groaner.

The story originated out of the Fergus Falls Journal in Minnesota who initiated a “Goat Watch” on their site and offered various rewards for finding Curly the Nativity Goat. The newspaper posted ongoing updates as to sightings and continued to up the ante. One story reported a day where 20 people failed to nab him.

On Tuesday, January 10, Curly was spotted:

About 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, Curly, who has eluded capture since getting off her leash Christmas Eve at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, was spotted near the VFW and grain elevator, according to eyewitness Ryan Schonhardt

Then, one day last week, Curly was found. The finders got $300 in rewards, which they donated to a charity to purchase six goats to feed hungry families in Africa.

  1. The goat in the first pic seems to be laughing at the photographer, ha ha.

Gorgeous goats, all. And, they’re public domain (work for free!) for your calendar. Your lucky day!

  3. I can’t pick which photo I like best because they are all adorable, but if you MADE me I think it would be the 3rd because both goats are in it. =)

I love the updates on the “goat on the lam.” Plus I agree it is awesome that they donated the reward money to feed the hungry.

  6. I’m glad to hear that things turned out well for Curly!  Love that the reward was donated too.  A great story all around, thanks for sharing it.

Curly was found. *sniff sniff* Thank you, Margaret, I haven’t slept a night through since he went missing.

  8. Nezzy says:

I’m swept off my feet with the first goat, it seems to be sayin’, “Hey baby, ya wanna ya wanna get together and eat some oats later???”

There’s just somethin’ very wrong with colorin’ animals.  ‘Nuff said!!!

God bless ya’ll and have a marvelous weekend!!! :o)

Isn’t that a sheep in the goat watch banner?
I like the first one too. I do not believe in painting goats. We are just fine as nature made us thank you very much.

Curly probably got tired of the paparazzi. I can understand this being a Famous SpokesGoat and all. The cameras flashing, the people yelling, “Hey Curly, look here, look here.” It can get to be too much when you just want to eat your hay and burp.

    1.  You would know, Pricilla, whether or not that’s a sheep. I forgot how to tell the difference. You can’t see it’s tail, but I can’t tell by the tear ducts either. Considering who would have come up with that image, (a newspaper lackey – not a farmer) it wouldn’t surprise me that that’s a sheep.

If I painted a goat my neighbors would call me in for cruelty. They just don’t get it.

And to use reward money to buy goats to eat? There is something not quite right about that. I hope it was for  for milk goats – for cheese and milk to make soap. That makes me feel better.

    1.  Those goat charity things tend to be milk goats because then it’s the gift that keep on giving.

I vote for Curly for the calendar.
