Have you ever heard of yarn bombing? No really, it’s a “thing”, man. There’s this blogger from Berkeley (Blog Name: Streetcolor’s Blog) who goes around knitting and attaching yarn art to poles and things and one day came to Sacramento in the middle of the night to yarn bomb the newly renovated Crocker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento. When I saw Streetcolor’s blog post, I ran down to the Crocker to snap a few photos before some stodgy museum manager guy insist it be removed.

Character-defining moments exist where people make decisions and in this case, mine eyes have seen the glory of the Crocker Art Museum. Why? Because they CHOSE to keep their gift of art adorning the pole outside their entrance, rather than being party poopers and ripping it down, claiming some ostensible poppycock about city regulations and defacing property and blah blah blah.

You might be saying, “But Margaret, by allowing it to stay, the yarn terrorists have won!”, but I love that Crocker has embraced this action of gorgeous vandalism. Not only have they allowed the yarn bombing to remain, they announced it via social media. “We’ve been yarn-bombed!” I saw on their Twitter stream one day.

Even poles should enjoy nice warm coats in the winter, am I right?

So thank you, you rogue knitter, you, whoever you are. And YAY! to yarn-bombing and the Crocker Art Gallery.
